Tuition Singapore Physics Tuition Measurement

Common Error 1

1 m = 100 cm, therefore 1 m² = 100 cm²

Correct Concept 1

• 1 m = 100 cm

Therefore 1 m² = 1 m x 1 m

= 100 cm x 100 cm = 10000 cm²

Common Error 2

Micrometer screw gauge has better precision than the vernier calipers, thus, we should always use the micrometer screw gauge for measurement whenever possible

Correct Concept 2

Although the micrometer screw gauge has better precision than the vernier calipers, its maximum reading is much less than the vernier calipers, thus, it is only suitable for measuring small objects.
