Be familiar with all the ways a leaf is adapted so that it can maximise its ability to perform the following processes:

• photosynthesis
• gaseous exchange with the external surroundings
• the effective transport of food and water

Questions on any of the above three processes may be asked with reference to a diagram showing the cross-section of a leaf.

Memorise the overall equation and the main requirements for both stages. Be able to compare the two stages in detail

Photosynthesis is strongly affected by the variations in light intensity, temperature and carbon dioxide concentrations in the air. Memorise the graphical representations of these variations and know what they mean. During the examination, you may be asked to explain them in various new settings and contexts but the fundamental facts remain the same.
