    SOLUTIONS

    • A solution is a homogeneous mixture of a solute and a solvent, that is, the solute and the solvent are mixed evenly in every part of the solution.
    • Solvent is the substance that dissolves another substance. It forms the bulk of a solution.
    • Solute is the substance that is being dissolved by another substance

    Solubility

    • Solubility of a substance is the maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in 100 g water at a fixed temperature.
    • The solubility depends on the following factors:
    1. Type of solvent

For example, to dissolve salt, which type of solvent is suitable, oil or water?

The answer is water. This shows that the type of solvent can affect the solubility of the salt.

    1. Type of solute

For example, if water is the solvent, which solute can dissolve in it, paint or sugar?

The answer is sugar. This shows that the same solvent does not dissolve each solute to the same extent.

    1. Temperature

For example, to dissolve jelly powder, which temperature of water should be used, cold water or hot water?

The answer is hot water. Jelly powder does not dissolve well in cold water. However, it dissolves completely in hot water. This shows that temperature affects the ability of a solute to dissolve in a solvent.
