    Hi A-level/H2/JC Physics Tuition students

We have completed Nuclear Physics Part I and Part II

Please take note the following misconceptions

    1) Binding energy is NOT the energy binding the nucleons together. Binding energy is the work done (or energy supplied into the atom) to break the nucleus into its constituent nucleons.

    2) The binding energy per nucleon binding energy per nucleon is an indication of a nucleus’ stability, NOT binding energy.

Next lesson will be on Nuclear Physics 3 on radioactivity decay and will be starting revision by using top 5 JCs Prelim Qns
    Cheers

Chapter 2 – Measurement and Experimental Techniques

    Collection of Gases

    1) Displacement of water is suitable for collecting gases that are insoulble or slightly soluble in water.

    Example: CO2, H2, O2

    2) Downward delivery should be used to collect gases that are soluble in water and denser than air.

    Example: Cl2, HCL

    3) Upward delivery is used to collect gases that are soluble in water and less dense thar air

    Example: NH3

Hi Ryan, thank you for helping me turn my econs H2 from U to A! I have never scored more than 8 out of 25 in my essays and by my mid year exams, I was able to score an average of 17/25!

    By Amy from VJC 2011:

Hi Ryan, I have topped my class very frequently by using your method of S.R.J.C. Not only was i able to follow all my lectures and tutorials more consistently, I grew a passion for this subject and eventually decided to pursue a degree in economics in SMU.

    Commom Error in log

    log(x + y) NOT EQUAL TO log x + log y
    log(x – y) NOT EQUAL TO log x – log y

    log(xy) = log x + log y
    log(x/y) = log x – log y

Which one is more soluble, 2-nitrophenol or phenol? Why?

2-nitrophenol is less soluble due to the intra molecular hydrogen bonding.

Which is a stronger acid, phenol or 2,4,6-trichlorophenol? why?

2,4,6-trichlorophenol is more acdic because the Cl groups are electron with-drawing and will make the O more electron deficient, so the deprotonation of the O will be more favorable
