    Increasing and Decreasing Functions

    1. When dy/dx > 0 the function is increasing.

    2. When dy/dx < o the function is decreasing.

    3. When dy/dx = o , there is a turning point or point of inflexion

    4. Second derivative maximum point

    5. Second derivative > 0 => minimum point

    6. Second derivative = 0 we cannot conclude that it is a point of inflexion. We need to use the first derivative test to determine the nature.

    Mass, Weight and Density – Key Concepts

    1. Mass is a measure of the amount of substances in an object
    2. Inertia is tendency of any object to resist change in its state of rest
    3. Gravitational field is a region in which a mass experiences the gravitational force of attraction.
    4. Weight of the object will change as the gravitational field strength varies in different planets.
    5. W = mg
    6. Density = Mass/Volume

    Hi Chu Wen

    2HI ——-> H2 + I2
    <——
    Initial – 0.5 0.5
    Change 2x -2x -2x
    Eqm 2x 0.5-2x 0.5-2x

    Kp = (PH2 * PI2)/PHI^2 = ( 0.5 – x)^2/2x = 4.44
    solving x = 0.096
    PH2 = 0.5 – 0.096 = 0.404 atm

    Hi All A-Level/JC/H2/H1 Chemistry Students

    Catalyst

    A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself being chemically changed at the end of the reaction

    Characteristics of the catalyst:
    1. Required in small amounts
    2. Do not affect the enthalpy change of the reaction
    4. Increase the rate constant of the reaction.
    5. Accelerates the reaction, rather than initiate it.

    An autocatalyst is a product of a chemical reaction which is capable of acting as a catalyst for the reaction.

    A homogeneous catalyst exists in the same phase as the reactants

    A heterogeneous catalyst exists in a different phase from the reactants.
